“Back to Life. Back to Reality.”

This was a piece I originally wrote for a uni project. For my first official blog post I decided to expand on it, as the trend has seeped into my wardrobe too! Hi and welcome to my first official piece and don't worry it will not be my last.

Summer is finally here, even though it has it's occasional tantrums and disappears as it feels. We Brits love a bit of sunshine and we won't turn down a day to get glammed up in our mini shorts and crop tops (I know I surely don't). No more jackets and thick cardies, it's all about the light clothing. But what do you wear? It's not everyday that you're going on a special outing and you need some top notch outfit to "knock em dead" , sometimes you just want to be comfortable but still stylish. So what's on the menu- no literally.

Earlier this year during Milan fashion week Moschino offered us fast food in the form of fashion. Ok, people were not literally wearing burgers, but a part of the collection was shaped around the theme of Mcdonalds. We all love a bit of Mcdonalds, but we didn't really expect to see it on the runway, especially for such a high fashion brand. However, this playful, yet smart twist was a huge success, which inspired a brilliant, fun and easy way for every day dressing.

The big 'M', symbolic to the fast food chain we all claim we've taken a break from, and the vibrant colours reminded me of the fashion from the 90's. The 90's represented a laid back, but fun era for fashion. There was no shying away from bright colours, and the casualness to the clothing represented a certain youthful swagger. When I think of 90's fashion the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Saved by the Bell instantly comes to mind. These were two programmes from my childhood filled with characters with wild dress senses.

90's Fashion:

High waisted stone washed denim, baseball-like shirts, crop tops and monochrome with a sudden splash of bright colours.

This theme of playfulness among the runway, which was not only present in the Moschino collection, but in others too, like Anya Hindmarch's counter culture collection, was quite interesting and fun to see. Anya, British handbag designer structured her bag collection around household goods and foods such as Kellog's cereal and Ariel washing powder.

Although this theme was quite unusual and was not cohesive to the former styles of fashion among these designers it was a great success. When I saw it then it got me thinking about how this style translated to the every-day-woman's fashion. I automatically thought of slogan T's- sometimes monochrome, with a white background and a silly, quirky saying on the front. Slogan T's are certainly the in-thing! Alexander Wang created a statement sweatshirt for Autumn/Winter 2013 with the bold print: 'Parental Advisory Explicit Content' on the front. This piece was made to show that high fashion does not have to always be serious and that sometimes fun and simple can be stylish too.

With Alexander Wang's sweatshirt still acting as an outfit inspiration all the way into the summer it certainly shows that slogan T's are a complete problem solver- well when it comes to getting dressed.

Everyone's doing it from supermod Cara Delevigne to bad girl Rih Rih.

Slogan T's have literally been my saviour this summer. When I'm stuck with what to wear I just throw a T-shirt on and it can literally be teamed with anything to create that cool 90's inspired vibe. There are two routes to go down: you can either dress it down with a pair of vintage shorts and converses or dress it up with a tailored dungarees and smart shoes.

Two of my outfits:
Top, £16, River Island; Shorts, Levis; Sandals, £20, New Look;
Necklace, £4, Primark

 I wore this outfit for a casual day out in the park. I thought the saying worked well for a picnic day. I teamed it with a pair of vintage high waisted Levi's and my fave two strap sandals from New Look. It was a very comfy and easy outfit to put together.

Top, £4, H+M; Jacket, £16, Primark; skirt, homemade; sandals, £20, Newlook

This was my more dressed up take on a slogan T Outfit. I picked up this little crop top from H+M and teamed it with a maxi thigh high split skirt (homemade), denim jacket and my fave sandals. I was heading to a Bbq straight after work, so this was perfect for a dressy-casj look.

Get Involved:
It's a fun and easy way to get dressed and it always helps when you get stuck with what to wear, like me. Buy a couple t-shirts. They go from cheap to more high priced, but you wont be disappointed.
